Dancing up a storm

28483888.jpgLearning these classic dances is a skill you will use in many situations besides prom. Think of how cool you’ll look at a wedding or formal event (maybe even an event at a future job with your boss looking on wondering who to promote..) when everyone else dances in a certain style and all your friends have to sit and watch but you get out there and look cool. This might be something to look into in your neighborhood.

Before long, the sound of “Mambo No. 5″ pulsated through the cafeteria and the room became a blur of twirling skirts and swaying hips. The teenagers, used to hip-hop dancing or not dancing at all, were swept up in swing fever.

Interesting Prom Mentions in the News 5

thumb_1174090308867_0p70159.jpgParent outraged over glassware passed out as Prom momentos

Some parents are outraged over junior prom souvenirs. Copper Hills High School students are getting glassware that look like beer mugs and champagne glasses. That’s what Gary Davis’ son brought home from school after he bought his prom tickets. Davis says, “I was shocked, appalled that this type of material was given out by the school to underage kids.” Concerned parents say these glasses send a mixed – and dangerous – message to high school students.

Priceless Prom Winners

Priceless Prom WinnersCongratz to the winners! You can help decide what they’ll wear to Prom by logging on and voting. Hope they have a wonderful time!

How the win helps: The time together is great, they say, but a paid-for prom has a real shot at perfection. Both teens work to pay for cell phones, cars, insurance and gas. Last year, Paul, 18, had to borrow money from his parents to cover prom costs, and he used his job at Pizza Hut in Winchester to pay them back. This year, Amber, 17, planned to wear an old pageant dress instead of buying a new one with her pay from her new job as a hostess at b.d.’s Mongolian Grill.

Taylor DiSantisSpeaking of Sweet Charity check out this cool story (and others!).

Sweet charity

Watching the excesses described on the MTV reality show “My Super Sweet 16″ last summer led St. Joseph Central High School sophomore Taylor DiSantis to turn his 16th birthday party on March 3 into a fundraiser for teen activities.

DiSantis, with help from fellow St. Joseph’s students Ryan Storie, Eric Kulpa, Jessica Healy and Courtney Failla, raised $2,200 that they plan to use to provide financial and other mentoring assistance for Berkshire County youngsters between the ages of 5 and 18. More than 100 teens from four high schools attended DiSantis’ party, which took place at the Sons of Italy’s Itam Lodge.

“I was expecting $1,000 at best,” DiSantis said.

Introducing Prom Queen.TV

promx.jpgCheck it out here: Prom Queen TV

Gear Live reports:
Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney, has announced the formation of Vuguru, a studio that will develop what they claim will be a “slickly written, produced, and acted Web video about love, gossip and betrayal.” In other words, his investment company, The Tornate, will be producing a professionally made YouTube soap opera.

Eisner feels that although YouTube has won the first battle in Internet TV, real media moguls will ultimately win the broadband war. His first show will be “Prom Queen,” a who-done-it with daily 90-second installments beginning April 2. You will find all 80 episodes on Vuguru.com, Ellegirl.com (a “Prom Queen” sponsor,) Veoh, and of course, YouTube.

Courtney-Cotrelle Cromartie isn’t being conceited when he says he “wasn’t worried about the competition.”

The 22-year-old, named Saturday as the Top Aspiring Fashion Designer in the Pensacola Bay Area at the second annual Project Prom, said he was concerned about one thing only during the competition: making sure client Amber Matejka was happy.

“That was very important to me,” he said. “I think it was important to all the designers.”

The Prom On America’s Next Top Model

americas-next-top-model.jpgAs reported on Reality TV Magazine, looks like we have some Prom themed fun to look forward to on the next America’s Next Top Model.

“Runway expert J. Alexander makes a grand appearance and the girls get “schooled” in the art of walking the runway. The girls participate in a prom-themed fashion show and one model who thinks she rocked it gets some negative criticism.

Later, the girls pose in a challenging photo shoot portraying high school clichés. The praise one model receives makes another model jealous. The judges eliminate one model.
Special guests include runway show producer and guest judge Roy Campbell; guest photographer Carlos Rios; professional stylist, Hallie Bowman.
America’s Next Top Model airs on The CW from 8PM to 9PM ET on Wednesday, March 7, 2007.

A Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize-winner, Quinceañera is a small film with a big heart.
The plot unfolds at the leisurely pace of life itself, yet there’s not a wasted moment in the script. The story follows the travails of young Magdalena (Emily Rios), a teen in the Mexican-American, but gentrifying, Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park.
