“Frock Me!” Vintage Fashion Event in June, London

Frock Me! on June 8th is a vintage fashion event that is held in London several times a year at the Chelsea Town Hall. In addition to clothing, pick up accessories such as hats, shoes, gloves and jewellery from a retro era.

And according to Frock Me! organizers, vintage clothing attracts a diverse clientele, from stylists and models to fashion students and collectors and even stage and film costume designers.

Those looking to mingle with designers and celebrities may well spot them rummaging for fashion one-offs in the crowd as items can reportedly be found to suit “all tastes and budgets”.

Stocking items from a range of eras including the 1920s, 1950s and 1960s, period Pucci, Lanvin and Chanel items are all among those likely to be found at Frock Me!

Vintage Fashion Fair in London April 6

Are you going? I have a feeling this one is going to be even more amazing than the last. The Vintage Fashion Fair will be held on Sunday 6th April in Notting Hill.
Anita Bott founded this one after the end of her previous partnership with Battersea Vintage Fashion Fairs. Anita’s Vintage Fashion Fairs (AVFF) organizes six fairs a year and features vintage clothing, textiles and accessories dating from 1800 to 1970. Everything from vintage buttons, braids and trimmings to stage costumes and high fashion can be found at the Vintage Fair.
She is hoping to make this the Number One Vintage Fair in the UK and is off to a great start because AVFF was voted 16th out of Vogue’s 100 ‘Guide to the Greatest Shops off the Beaten Track’.

Taylor DiSantisSpeaking of Sweet Charity check out this cool story (and others!).

Sweet charity

Watching the excesses described on the MTV reality show “My Super Sweet 16″ last summer led St. Joseph Central High School sophomore Taylor DiSantis to turn his 16th birthday party on March 3 into a fundraiser for teen activities.

DiSantis, with help from fellow St. Joseph’s students Ryan Storie, Eric Kulpa, Jessica Healy and Courtney Failla, raised $2,200 that they plan to use to provide financial and other mentoring assistance for Berkshire County youngsters between the ages of 5 and 18. More than 100 teens from four high schools attended DiSantis’ party, which took place at the Sons of Italy’s Itam Lodge.

“I was expecting $1,000 at best,” DiSantis said.

  • Top 3 Ideas for a Safe After-Prom Party

ely-hs-dj-crowd-5-spots-100pc-300.jpgAfter-Prom events are successful when the school and the community get involved.
The Gannett Newspapers recently assembled a teen panel in Westchester, New York to discuss the problem of “boredom in the ‘burbs”. Here are some of the suggestions the teens made:

Communities should have more teen-friendly businesses. Teens liked pizzerias, diners, and ice cream shops where they were allowed to hang out. Schools or community centers should offer more activities, including “open gym” during the summers so the kids have a place to go. Sports facilities should offer teen hour.

    1) School-Sponsored Events

Classrooms could be transformed into fun rooms and can have dancing, food, games and prizes. Parents can stay calm since these events are chaperoned by teachers or parent volunteers.

    2) Throw a House Party

Plan a parent-supervised party. Order a pizza or party subs and have fun coming up with creative games or a DVD for your guests. Nervous parents can check with the host parent to be sure that the party will be supervised and there won’t be any alcohol. Tell them to come by and help supervise if they want. See below for more tips on having an after-prom party at home.

    3) Community Activities

Get businesses involved with planning an after-prom party. Some might have events planned or maybe they will if you approach them about it. There are few things that the community can provide. See below for ideas about how the community can help out.

How To Pick a Prom Theme

60162-2.jpgYour prom theme is very important. It will be remembered for years to come by your classmates.

Here are some tips to help you decide:

Think about the type of prom you want to have, and see if your school has developed the guidelines for the prom colors, decorations etc. so you don’t make a lot of plans and then have to change them. Some themes are central where the students dress in theme with the decorations, or it can be specified as a theme to be appreciated as the backdrop alone. Whatever theme you choose make sure it fits the personality and customs of your student body. Don’t have a Disco Fever Night at your school if you know that no one listens to that genre for example.

But on this night, the staff at the South Bergen Jointure Middle/High School — with some help from the Rutherford Elks — were determined to make a memory for 40 kids that would last forever. The first-ever Winter Formal was a huge success.
